THE STRANGERS in a cool pose around 1963, or 64 with lead singer Robi Bischof as the wild one, wearing gloves and a chain around his neck! L to R: Raymond Keller, Marcel Keller, Peter Meneghin, Robi Bischof, Fritz Schmid

Got a match?

The Strangers, hail as one of the first and best beat bands from Basel, Switzerland. They were formed in 1959 by the two brothers Marcel and Raymond Keller, Peter Thommen and (later on) Fritz Schmid.

In spring of 1963, Thommen left to play for a short while with the jazzband The Hot Peppers, before he would join The Globemasters in June 1963. In winter of 1963, Thommen left The Globemasters to replace the Red Dynamites drummer Hisam Werner, and at the begining of 1965 Thommen decided to leave The Dynamites in favour to form his own beat, garage band The Crazy Snobs (along with ex- The Strangers organist Dieter Marchetti). After The Crazy Snobs split in 1966, Thommen went to play with The New Stars from Schopfheim, Germany).

Thommen was replaced by Peter Meneghin. Robi Bischof became The Strangers leadsinger in 1963. The Strangers were a primitive, raw rocking beat, garage band and in Robi Bischof they had found a real snotty singer. They´ve done dome fantasic versions of the Hanky Panky and I´m Alright, but there were unfortunately no records ever released by them. The Strangers split in 1966.
