December 2006:
SEVENS - Sevens LP (FEATHERED APPLE)

The Sevens - s/t (SWI., Feathered Apple FA 6507, '05)
Simple THEE best beat/garage LP from Europe in the 60s, hands down!! This is also reflected in its $2000+ price tag on an original copy!! Originally released on the Swiss Layola label in '65, this ROCKS from start to finish! The best thing (apart from the awesomely raw recording) is that it's mostly comprised of EXCELLENT original songs, with just a few covers thrown in (Animals' I'm Crying, Kinks' Don't You Fret etc) - dig the feedback freakout of Panam, the rockin' 12-string of Be My Loving Baby, the moody minor key gems You Should Know and What Can I Do!! FANTASTIC!!
This is the 2005 Feathered Apple release, the only band-sanctioned version of this landmark LP. This has been carefully mastered from a very clean copy of the original LP, so sound quality is TOPS!! Comes in full colour fold-over sleeve (like the original) with a large (A2) B & W poster, with full band history in English on the back. Very limited edition!
Comes in a self-seal clear polythene bag! THIS IS A VINYL RECORD, NOT A CD!!!
Mole, The Embrooks, U.K.
Please note: This LP now comes inside a thick and heavy plastic sleeve, like in the 60s!!

The Sevens: Sevens CD (Switzerland, Sevens, 2005). This is a brand new, sealed, high quality CD reissue (not a CD-R or copy!) of this fantastic 1960s Continental beat gem, the fabulous one and only LP by "Sevens", the first time on CD. Sevens were the great white hope for the new race at the Dawn of '65 (The Spokesmen asked for Correction!). This is their entire mega hyper rare LP plus 45 cuts and unreleased demos - straight from the band's own archives!! Thanks to the Sevens for making this available - top '65-'66!! 21 great tracks! Don't miss this gem!

Sevens - Sevens. LP, £14.00 (Feathered Apple - FA 6507)
We do not exaggerate if we say that The Sevens are some kind of a legend in the Garage rock panorama, not only in Switzerland, where their origins are, but even in the rest of the world where their 1965 self titled LP is a myth - very few people can claim to have seen this record. Originally released as a full length LP with 12 tracks, this reissue includes said 12 tracks and a massive fold out poster A must for all the garage rockers, this album will please anyone who is into the Rolling Stones , the Animals, Sonics, Downliners etc. So obscure that even Billy Childish hasn't heard it yet!!!

The Sevens – Same LP
Probably the best (certainly rarest) European 60s beat LP!!! From Switzerland, the Sevens charge thru 12 primitively recorded cuts, inc 9 dynamite originals, and 3 stonking covers (Animals' I'm Crying, Them's Gonna Dress In Black & Kinks' Don't You Fret). Every cut is a killer, from the 12-string jangle of Be My Loving Baby, the organ-led garage of Talk About Her, to the feedback-laden instro, Panam! These guys ruled!! They may not have had the sophistication of Les Sauterelles, but when it comes to hard-rockin' beat delivered in a wonderfully twisted accent, it don't get no better than this!

The Sevens: s/t LP (Switzerland, Feathered Apple, 2005).
Just issued,
licensed from band and an exact reissue (in true stereo) of this rarest
of Continental beat artifacts, originally issued on Layola in '66. This
reproduction has great sound, comes in a thin fold over sleeve just
like the originals did, plus comes with a cool poster. The sound
matches the original as closely as possible. Nice job.

Thanks for the records...Went to the PO Box this morning and got them.
Wow! is all I can say... this is just amazing. The music, the sound, the
way it looks and the INCREDIBLY COOL poster...all in all it's just a
great freakin' rock and Roll item. Congratulations! I just love it! I
mean it...It's really great and it's too bad reissues or records in
general are not released like this anymore...A labour of love...11 out
of ten!

THE SEVENS
The Sevens (Feathered Apple Records, LP)
So you head off to record a couple of tracks for a local compilation album which you hope to have finished by lunch time, and you come out of the studio at 3.00am the following morning having recorded a whole album – and mostly first takes at that! Such is the case with Swiss beat band The Sevens. In 1965 the Layola label wanted to compile an LP of Basel bands, the Sevens amongst them. The studio was the back room of the Landgastof Riehen restaurant in Lucern. Pitt Linder, a Swiss engineer and sound equipment constructor recorded the sessions including the resultant Sevens LP. The band themselves were reportedly not too happy with it. They felt the original recordings sounded better than they did on the album and that the feedback and distortion they achieved in the studio had been erased and even some bass parts are thought to be missing that were recorded! Minus this and plus forty years in passing to reassess it by, and this edition of the Sevens album is probably the best sounding and certainly the most lovingly packaged ever. The LP comes in a great wrap-around repro colour sleeve and a huge foldout insert which features a b/w poster of the band on one side and great b/w pics and a full history of the band on the other. Given the spit and chewing gum approach that the original album was recorded with, the Feathered Apple reissue has done a good job in sound restoration. Sevens tracks are ubiquitous to garage comp collectors; ‘The Love of A Bird’, What Can I Do’, ‘In God I Trust’ and the freak beat instro (which probably was even more so before it got tamed for vinyl) that is ‘Pan Am’ (improvised in the studio for the album) are all here and make this LP more than a the sum of its parts. It would be quite easy, superficially, to just hear it as another bunch of beat wannabes, but with the care and attention to detail that this has received as a complete package, you get the history and the context lacking in other reissue editions of the album. This makes you hear it with fresh ears and lets you catch some of that youthful enthusiasm that fuelled the beat scene in so many towns and cities around the world at the time. Great beat permeates the album’s twelve tracks, nine of them group compositions. If you’ve been contemplating buying a vinyl edition of the Sevens album, here’s the one to get.

Listening to it now. It's a great LP with alot of Garage/Beat mixed in to it. I love the songs with the heavy organ sound. Thats what its all about for myself.
I love "Panam" , "In God I trust" is a killer track and the best song on the LP. "I'm Crying" is a great garage cover classic.

Let me tell you the truth: This platter in glorious black vinyl is one of thee 6t's reissues of the year! Originals of this album, which was released in 1966, fetch up to Dollar 3000 in near mint condition, so what about getting one of these babes? THE SEVENS hailed from Basel, Switzerland, and recorded some of the best Beat Ravers ever! "I'm crying", what a song! Scorching guitars, a manic organ and a way cool singer, an instant classic! The album contains a well mixed tracklist of frantic Beat & some really haunting ballads! This damn thing contains no less but 9 killer original-songs & 3 wild covers of choice ANIMALS, THEM and KINKS tracks! This reissue is absolutely legal & pressed with license of the band. The sound quality on this STEREO LP is FABULOUS AUTHENTIC and blows the inferior Akarma release out of the water....some say it even sounds better then the original LP! Here's some of the last copies of the first 400er pressing including a huge poster! File next to LOS MOCKERS, SHADOWS OF KNIGHT, your fave record!

The Sevens – Same LP
Feathered Apple Records

Many thanks for the Sevens LP which arrived today via Lenny Helsing (please say hi and thanks from me, I don't have his e.mail address, we were both original Shindig e.group members). It looks like a very nice job, I will enjoy reading the huge insert! The Shindig review will probably just feature the front sleeve as far as pictures go as the site gets pushed for space (and time to form everything up) but I will write a substantial review as there is a lot to draw on in the liners anyway. WOWWWWWWWWWWW this really is a great release of The Sevens, they will be proud of you I am sure...the cover looks stunning, and what can I say about the insert, just fabulous!!!!!!! Some real great pics, and of course the story, hope my editing went some way to help you achieve what you hoped for. I just played the LP and it also sounds JUST GRRRRRRRRRREAT! Hey, how come all the track credits are changed, was it all wrong originally - you may have said something to me while we were working on the story, and if so, I apologise, I must've forgotten. Cos even on the original single version of In God I Trust it just says Boway, but now on your great release it just says Aebischer. How did you manage to get the correct credit...and make it stick with the legal performing/mechanical royalties team...cos these things are notoriously difficult to re-instate once a name has been used for this number of years...wrongly!
