MARSHA GEE - Peanut Duck / COUNT YATES - Chimpanzee (Spain - Penniman PENN45013)(PS) M/M CHF 9:00 Peanut Duck” is simply one of the best songs ever. A fascinating composition featuring raw sound, astonishing LYRICS and, last but not least, a sexy, b-i-z-a-r-r-e performance... A true experience for the senses! Little is known about this number, save for the fact that it was waxed at Philadelphia's Virtue studio at some point in the mid-sixties. There are several opinions concerning the identity of the singer hiding behind the Marsha Gee artistic name (a celebrity?, was she drunk or simply knackered?) Another mystery: how comes that such a powerful number was not originally released? Preserved through an acetate –discovered in the late 70’s- it was later included in a few compilations, some of them good, some of them quite horrendous... In any case, here you have the first legit and, hopefully, definitive release of “the duck song”. Call it soul, R&B or simply dance music... In a perfect world, such a dance would be taught in schools -- MUST HAVE!! |

-The Cover is one of the strangest pasted on covers that I've seen. The frontcover of the pasted on
-cover was only glued (for about one half inch only) on the right cover opening, while the backcover
-was only glued on all four sides. It was not glued in the center, which is a bit unusual. I've found
-this LP in Switzerland a long time ago. It looks like some super rare export LP to my eyes.

The song was "Really Really Love You" which continues to get airplay today thanks to -Jerry Blavat and Geator Gold Radio (AM 1060). Though Ronnie's falsetto voice has been compared to -Smokey Robinson, it is his unique songwriting, sincere lyrics, brilliant melodies and angelic delivery -that is in the same league as other Philly artists like The Del Fonics, Stylistics, Eddie Holman and -Blue Magic.
