THE RAUNCH HANDS story by Mike Tchang: Part 4
Our influences are Rhythm & Blues like The Coasters, Chuck
Berry, Bo Diddley, Richard Berry, Elmore James, Jerry Lee
Lewis, Little Richard, Sonics, Trashmen, Busters, Dick Dale
etc. etc. There are countless guitar and vocalists we love.
R&R of the '50s, & '60s we love also. '50s wise I love the mad
instrumentals and frantic R&R. We love '60s to the point where
things got all druged up.
I hate whimpy stuff like Hermans Hermits, and all Mersey
stuff. I don't like most English stuff but I'm not
predjudice
towards them. I do like some English stuff. I love Surf
instrumentals, and Country music of the early days: Tennessee
Ernie Ford, Maddox Bros..... There are countless bands and
rare records that I would like to name. Mike Mariconda and
Vince Brnicevic are the record collectors of this group. They
have great record collections. Most of what I have is on tape.
Our live sets are filled with bump and grind action - killer
leads - wailing Sax - hip Bass - pounding rhythm - dirty lyrics
- and a singer that makes girls nipples erect with every
gruesome tone he puts out!
We have about half covers, half originals and can play 3 one
hour sets without repeating songs. Tear that dance floor up!!
It's hard to catch our live madness on record, but what we
do get is 80s Rock and Roll the Raunch Hands way, and our
forthcoming album is so hot the polar ice caps will be melting.
(Michael Tchang, in a letter from 19. March 1986)
