| The
Mirage IIIC served as an Air Defense Fighter with the
French Air Force, but the South African and Israel Air
Forces used them also very successfully as a
Fighter-Bomber. Although the frontline-service for the C-model was short (1961 to 1964) with the French Air Force, some of their Mirage IIIC served well into the 80's with EC 3/10 "Vexin" in Djibouti (East Africa) with the French forces there. In addition to this, some ex-Israeli IIICJ were also still in use with the Fuerza Aerea Argentina in the late 90's! |
| With
their Mirage IIIC, the French Air Force was the first
European air arm to have a Mach-2 interceptor
operational, plus all-weather and day/night capability! Equipped with the Cyrano radar, and armed with 2 x 30 mm DEFA-cannons plus two Sidewinder AIM-9B and one Matra R.530 (infra-red or radar-guided) missiles, the Mirage represented a fearsome weapons platform (at least for its time ...). |
| Due to
the metallic finish, I had some problems to make the
pictures with a Digital Camera. On most of them, I got
some irritation or blind sections - and during shrinking
to fit them on these pages, I lost some more quality. Even so, I hope you will get some taste on my Mirage ... |
I have more pictures! Please go to the second Page of the Mirage. |
