Canadair
CL-13A Mk.5 "Sabre"
| The Canadair CL-13 Mk.5 was basically a North American F-86F Sabre, but powered by an Avro Orenda 10 engine and equipped with the "6-3" wing and wing fences. Canadair built a total of 370 Mk.5s, 75 of which were delivered to the Federal German Bundesluftwaffe in 1957. |
| This
model shows Candair c/n 934 (ex RCAF No. 23144), which served as Luftwaffe BB-125 from 1957 to 1961. It is marked for 1.Staffel / Waffenschule 10 der Luftwaffe (1. / WaSLw 10), as it has been based at Oldenburg AB, Germany in August 1959. |
| The kit is from
Monogram (No.74002), reissued with these decals in 1991
and based on the old kit from 1971. I built the kit out of box without any additional parts or decals. The only "own touch" is the scratch-built yellow intake cover to hide the terrible intake channel. |
| The nice
cockpit needs only careful painting and dry brushing, et
voilą! I added some plastic card for further detail, but
this is not really necessary. The seat is also a good representation of the original one, only the molded seat-belts are of no use. |
| A very nice feature
with this kit is the possibility to build the gun-bay
open. So you can show the 3 x .50 Caliber Machine Guns in
good effect. However, painting and drybrushing will do it, but there is plenty room for some better detailing. But with the Hasegawa kit now around, this effort should be saved for this new model. With the Hasegawa and the new Academy kit, you can build some real good Sabres with these two offers. |
